Why Real Estate Is Still Thriving Despite Market Fears

The other day, I ran into "that" guy. You know the one. The guy who just knows everything about everything. The walking, talking Google search result of doom and gloom. Only this time, he had his sights set on the real estate market.
“Brandi,” he said, leaning back like he was about to drop some earth-shattering truth, “nobody’s buying houses right now. Everyone’s waiting for the market to crash.”
Oh, really? Everyone?
I sipped my coffee (okay, it was Pepsi, I know, I know, I shouldn’t drink pop) and I just smiled. This wasn’t my first rodeo. Twenty years in this business, and I’ve heard this same “the sky is falling” speech more times than I can count. And every time, it’s from someone who isn’t even actively buying or selling. Funny how that works, huh?
He went on, throwing out words like “interest rates” “inflation” and “recession” as if they were trump cards. Meanwhile, I was thinking about my current to-do list: two showings, three closings, and a buyer who’s been begging me to find them an acreage because there’s literally nothing on the market right now. But sure, tell me how “nobody’s buying houses.”
“Here’s the thing,” I said, finally jumping in. “Yes, interest rates are higher than they were a couple of years ago, but that doesn’t mean people just stop needing homes. Life doesn’t pause because of the headlines. People get married, have kids, get new jobs, or decide they’re ready to downsize, jobs get relocated, divorces happen and unfortunately people pass away. And, by the way… I’m running out of homes to sell because there’s so much demand.”
He looked skeptical, of course. Because “that guy” always does. But let me tell you what I didn’t say to him (because I’m a professional and I can keep it classy):
If everyone waits for the market to crash, here’s what’s likely to happen: they’ll wait…and wait…and wait. And by the time they realize prices aren’t tanking, they’ll jump back in, along with everyone else, and we’ll have another frenzy on our hands. Newsflash: You don’t win the real estate game by trying to time the market perfectly.
But I didn’t need to say that. His eyes were already glazing over—probably thinking about the next podcast he’d quote at me. Instead, I wrapped it up nicely:
“Listen, if you ever do decide you’re ready to buy or sell, give me a call. I’ll make sure you’ve got the facts—real ones, not just what the media’s throwing at you.”
And just like that, the conversation was over. He wandered off, probably to warn someone else about the impending apocalypse. Meanwhile, I went back to doing what I do best: helping real people navigate the real market, in real-time.
So if you’re sitting on the sidelines, waiting for that magical “perfect time,” just know this—sometimes the perfect time is just when you’re ready. And when that happens, you know where to find me.
